What is your creative Journey?

I started December Oak in 2014 but I've been a web designer and developer since 2001. I was creating websites back when we all used AOL. My business has evolved over the years with new services and even names. But one thing that has stayed consistent is the passion I have for web design and the results we get our clients.

What are Your future business plans?

We aim to work with more diverse clients, both in industry and goals. We're also aiming to expand our education and resources for other designers and creatives.

What piece of advice would you offer creatives entering the field?

Establish your processes and systems early. Not only does it save you time but you have a better experience with your clients, leading to more.

How do balance your personal and professional life?

I set strict boundaries on when I communicate with clients and when are off limit times for my work. I sometimes get inspired at night so I don't restrict myself if I'm willing to work but then I take extra time in the day to focus on me and take care of myself so it all balances out.

How do you think you stand apart from other creatives?

I think my level of expertise with web design and openness to incorporating my client's ideas helps me to stand out. Through a collaborative process, both with my clients and other creatives, our projects adapt to the needs and brand of each client.

Can you share some lessons you've learned through your creative career?

Specialize your services. Offer what you're really good at and be open to collaboration for other areas you aren't as strong in. Just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

How does tools like Webflow and Figma help your business process?

Figma is a fantastic way to experiment with design options as I create the mockup for my clients of their site. I can express what the site will look like and how it will function. Webflow brings all of these ideas to life and helps my clients maintain their own sites so they can continue to grow and expand.
